For a long time I had been looking into getting a Leatherman but I was not interested in the larger size tools.
The SOG tool was a great size and can easily be clipped to the inside of your pocket.
This comes in handy all the time for my IT job and I have stopped using pocket knives as much.
I wish the screw drivers were a little larger or supported different tips.
I have never needed to use the saw and the line cutter but it is probably just something I don’t need for my EDC.

Overall very happy with the quality and size.
Wish there were additional model options like Leatherman offers.

This little multi-tool is much better that I expected from SOG.
The tools are well formed and ground.
    The pliers line up well.
The opening mechanism is very smooth.
The 2-1 plier design is very nice.
The scissors are just barely passable.

I would give it 5 stars, but SOG made this Multi-tool from 5cr13 trash steel. SOG can’t help themselves.

The tool functions good enough, and at nearly $50 it is a good value, if you are looking for a small pocketable multi-tool.

SOG Multi tools seem to have some haters and many overlook them. I own examples of both SOG and the Leatherman. I am a fan of SOG’s Power Access Assist and this Powerpint. The Powerpint is a midi tool. Leatherman seems to have abandoned mid size tools like the Juice and even the specialty mini tools like the great Squirt ES line with wire strippers. The Powerpint is the perfect size for the more urban, casual user, or one seeking a smaller tool. It is light and easily clippable, pocketable in the small jeans pocket, etc. The pliers can be deployed one handed. The small screwdrivers are perfect for electronics like a laptop. You will learn how to open and unlock the various features without having to open the tool. SOGs hex bit holders are very usable and frequently welcomed by this user over the Leatherman flat bit holders. A usable feature in a tool of this class and size. The pliers on the Powerpint are very decent relative to the size of the tool. The little coupon clipper blade is appreciated in the wharncliff shape The scissors are small but good for cutting fishing line. I happen to like the gut hook style line cutting tool on SOG multitools when I am cutting equal lengths of twine or string.

I see the way the SOG tools present as almost like a Soviet Bloc era interpretation of a multitool. I say this In the most positive way. The metal is a little less polished, the external pliers gear mechanism has a very robust industrial look, and some parts can be pinchy if not careful. The stonewash finish has a spartan yet very competent look particularly on the bigger models. It feels like a mechanism that came from a MIG21 Cockpit or Typhoon sub to me.

As time goes by, I find myself preferring the SOG pliers design with compound mechanism over the competition. It feels more rigid and controlled. There are no pivot points at the base of the plier jaws.

Multi-tools are flat out fun to play with, but their value proposition is one of accessibility and convenience over absolute strength and durability. A small tool like this has small features. However I am impressed with the features included and frame construction relative to its size. I see this as a great addition to one’s desk or laptop bag,

I’ve had and used a Leatherman Squirt for several decades but wanted a slightly larger substitute. This is my first SOG. I have and use full sized Leathermans and Gerbers but am still impressed with this mini tool. It’s lighter than my Micra and larger than the Squirt but has a more versatile tool set. Fit and finish are on par with the cheaper Gerber products. This is now a useful adjunct to my edc kit.

I bought this to replace a now-discontinued Leatherman Style CS I lost. It is hard to find mini- or midi-sized multitools with pliers! I went with the SOG Powerpint after reading lot of reviews, many of which were from guys who love it as their EDC. Many agreed that it benefits from a good tune-up and some mods.

A quick internet search will turn up several mods that I highly recommend to get the most out of this multitool (features it should have had from SOG). You can see in my photos that I: 1) ground down and sharpened the can opener, 2) ground and filed the end of the bottle opener into a 1/8″ screwdriver, 3) ground and shaped the end of the file into a 1/4″ screwdriver, 4) sharpened the box cutter/opener, and 5) put nail nicks in the awl, box cutter, bottle and can openers.

I did all of these modifications with a benchtop grinder, Dremel and sharpening stone, but most could be done with a file and/or sandpaper. Afterward, I adjusted the tension on the tool hinge screws and oiled and cleaned the whole thing. It now feels like it will be a great EDC companion tool.

Great multitool for EDC with great assortment of tools, and it has the SOG compounding force plyers. The only downside is that the tool needs to be shipped with a belt sheath worthy of this tool.

  7. Brandon Hrevnak

I haven’t really had any complaints using this tool, everything works as advertised and the knife is super sharp, with that in mind it’s half the size of a leatherman wave so it takes up little space.

Great little multitool seems fairly seems fairly well made but has one flaw ! The belt clip needs to be made where it can be switched from one side to the other , if you carry in your left pocket as I do there is nothing keep it from opening because the clip is to the back of the pocket and that allows the side without clip to move and open up , if you carry in right pocket then side without clip is towards back of pocket and can’t open

  9. kidthorazine

Great tool, I have a few and they are built well to last.

I used for construction irrigation trade. And is very helpful because you dont have to carrier any big tools on you pocket. With this tool you have everything you need.

  11. Jona

The tool is almost thr best mini multitool but it has 2 mayor flaws. Lack of big flat head, I mean that’s a basic tool for any multitool. Hard fa I l with that one. And the scissor are almost useless. Will they cut if you really try yes but don’t expect an easy time. Might as well just go and use the knife. Beside those 2 things every other tool works as expected. Just remember this is a micro tool, so have tame expectations with performance.

First off, I really like this tool! I’ve owned and used various Gerber (600, Dime, DualForce), Leatherman (PST, Style PS, Skeletool, Juice, Wingman), and a few other cheap no-name multi-tools. I’ve looked for years for a MT that could 1. fit in my pocket, 2. not weight a ton, and includes a set of 3. actually functional pliers and 4. functional screwdrivers. This little guy meets those criteria.

To a somewhat lesser extent I wanted a tool a southpaw can use. As other southpaws are well aware, 99.9% of the existing MTs in the world that have a pocket clip open up a file or something else that pretty useless at your left thumb rather than a blade of some sort. As sold, this one does too. However, it is possible to disassemble this tool with two 8mm hex bits and flip/flop the plain edge blade and the file. So, for perhaps the first time in recorded history, there exists a MT with a BLADE at your left thumb!!! It’s not the easiest thing to open but it does open.

The excellent: The pliers are wonderful. They are stiff and just the right size. I can use them for jewelry repair on up to a 9/16″ nut. They can function as tweezers to crab claw crackers. These are much more effective than the Skeletool or Juice and on par with the Wingman or Gerber 800. The ability to use 1/4″ bits takes care of all my screwdriver needs. The awl is awesome. The ruler on this actually matches a stand alone 6″ ruler and is very functional. The little jewelry screwdriver is great both as a small screwdriver and works okay as a “poky thing” when what you really need is a small punch. The crimper works really well on fishing weights.

The average: The file is pretty good but not as good as some other offerings. The bottle opener works but should have been shaped to handle a #8 flat tip. The hook cutter works for fishing line and paracord. Both the plain and serrated blades are sharp and functional.

Now the bad: the scissors are junk. The protractor function is useless. The can opener is dull and should have a #2 Philips capable tip like a Swiss Army Knife (…perhaps I can do that with a file?).

Overall, it’s definitely worth the asking price if you are looking for a pocket-sized MT that won’t pull your shorts down and offers very good functionality. This is my first SOG manufactured tool, and I will now definitely consider some of their other offerings.

Sharp, has the tools I need, and it’s sturdy.

The quality of this tool is superb. The usability of this tool is outstanding. Have owned a Leatherman
multi-tool for several years, and this multi-tool is of equal high quality. Incredible value.
