Before we get to the tool itself, the condition it came in was what left me upset. The box was seemingly un-tampered with, but the tool itself showed signs of use. I bought it new, but this looks like it was repackaged in new packaging.
The tool had scratches and dings and other signs of wear in some places. There were fingerprints visible through the plastic before I even opened it (I dropped it out of the packaging onto my bed, just the tool, before touching it with my own hands, and my suspicion was confirmed… fingerprints). The bits had fuzz on them as if they fell on someone’s floor and were picked up and put back in their holder (again, I didn’t let this fall out when I dumped the tool on my bed). There was a sticky substance on the jaws of the pliers, and it was certainly not oil. It felt and smelled more like thick maple syrup that had dried for weeks. So I’m very wary of this seller now (Camofire), despite their overall positive reviews. (On further inspection, many of those reviews look like they were written by bots, haha)
On to the actual product, though.
It’s alright. It has a bunch of cool features in a single, solid package. The locking mechanism is a little *too* good, but that’s not inherently bad. What IS bad is the carrying pouch it comes with. That thing is flimsy and does not hold the tool tightly or securely. I’ll definitely be keeping this thing in a different one.
The bits are fine, but I’ll be using a more complete set that I already have around. The pliers are solid and sturdy, and the various tools in the handle are all good. The standard knife blade is sharp, but not fine; I prefer my knives sharper but it’s good enough for daily use, and I’m experienced enough in sharpening that I can make do when it dulls down.
However, I’m really not impressed with the fact that when closed up, the handles don’t align, and are slightly off-center. I expected better from SOG, even in a potentially pre-owned/used product. It doesn’t wobble or bend, it’s sturdy… almost as if assembled off-kilter to begin with. Can’t tell for sure, but it irks me like no other. But in the end, it’s about function, not fashion, so I’ll be curious how it holds up.
I gave this thing a decent test run after work today, and it functions fine, so I’ll be keeping it. Hopefully my opinion doesn’t change in the coming weeks while it really gets taken through the gauntlet on the job.

Having a bit set is a game changer when it comes to fixing something on the fly. The only thing id like to see added would be a pair of scissors

I’ve had several multitools/brands through the years and I am most satisfied with this pair. Gerber is a very close second because of its sturdiness. This one, however, because of it’s features ranks it a number 1. The lock feature for the different tools are way easier to operate on my Gerber, especially with gloves on though, thus the 4 star only rating for the SOG. Cutters won’t really cut through soft wire e.g, paper clip grade that well. Tends to want to bend it instead. Nice tool pouch included. Most veritable one I’ve owned. Favorit feature? The fact tha you can CENTER MOUNT any 1/4″ bit out of the unfolded tool. 10 out of 10 would buy again.

This is my second one. I actually bought one by mistake (same product but not black). When it arrived, I was surprised to find the extra bits, and thought I would return it. Then I realized these bits will work great on the range and during airsoft events with my daughter. Was I surprised about how nice this Multi-Tool has worked out. I work as a range safety officer and this tool has assisted more shooters in-adjusting all types of sights and optics, adjusting MOS plates, tightening weapon lights, even clearing some weapons. I bought this tool to be my edc. All the tools functions as expected. The only negative I have about this product, is the sheath (SOG needs to up it’s sheath game). The Velcro did not hold up and the bit holder feels like it will not stay snug (went with a Gerber product for this). Overall I was very surprised with this product and highly recommend.

The multitool is very well made. The blade is very sharp and the other tools are high quality and built like a tank. It has a real Phillips head screwdriver and a socket connection for the bits.
The shovel folds up into an impressively compact package and has a nice, durable sheath. It locks into two positions for picking or shoveling. Nice job, SOG.

Not sure if someone repackaged and returned before the month date at the conclusion of their project.

Loved this tool, I’m a mechanic and it helps with simple tasks

I have had a few multi-tools, Leatherman & Gerber of various models. All functioned fine, but the SOG has more usable tools and the case works on my belt and on Molle gear. I’m ordering two more to keep in my gear and in my truck.

I carry it in my go bag. It’s a decant multi tool.👍

This is our 4th SOG multitool, we decided to upgrade before sending the older ones back for repairs. The newest version is great! Same quality and guarantee as always. A great purchase for anyone who needs to have multiple tools at hand.Great tool, a lot like the leatherman but has the full size bit adapter. I prefer this over a leatherman because of the price and its a tool that I’m not afraid to lose. I fish on a jetty and have lost gear dropping between the rocks, a tool that $100+ starts to add up real fast.

I’m a maintenance technician and use this constantly. Unfortunately the bit holder does not stay in the sheath very well at all and I lost my bit set 2 days after buying the multi tool

Been a gerber diesel user for the last 4 years until it was swiped from my work station. Bought his as it had a sheath, a few more blades that I end up needing from time to time, and it came with various bits possibly allowing me to not have screwdrivers hanging from my chest rig. So far it’s a great tool, folds open and close smoothly, blades and tools swing out smooth and lock tight in place, and the bits are nice.

The product itself is good quality and knives were sharp. Cuts zip ties and wires nicely. I would give it 5 stars if the pliers were spring loaded. It would make this tool invaluable. Because there is no spring action, it makes it harder to use.

I have owned many SOG products over the years and they are always solid and well built. I manage a property and this tool comes in handy all the time even though I’m not on the maintenance side of things. Recommended!

use this thing all the time. I get so many little things done that normally I walk by because I don’t have the tool near. great quality. zero issues for the size it is
If you are limited to carrying a single multi-tool, this is THE one. I have dozens of different ones and this one is THE best. Very reasonably priced too. You won’t be disappointed.
